Trumps Lavish Florida Vacations Have Cost Taxpayers a Disgusting Amount of Money

Throughout his campaign, Donald Trump criticized President Obama for taking too many vacations and playing too much golf. Trump said that as President, he would likely never have time to leave the White House due to all of the work that had to be done. Statements like these can now be added to the huge flaming pile of lies that the Trump administration has been pumping out lately, as Trump’s leisurely lifestyle is on pace to cost taxpayers more than the activities of any other United States President in history.

The most blatantly hypocritical costs are the ones that Trump specifically said he wouldn’t be engaging in: the constant vacations. Donald Trump’s three consecutive trips to his Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida have cost taxpayers over $10 million, and those costs are only on pace to keep growing. Everywhere Trump goes has to be highly secured due to the nature of his office, so these trips involve huge expenses for the Secret Service, Coast Guard, and other relevant agencies. In fact, Trump’s visits have been costing the local economy so much that even high-profile Republican lawmakers like Florida’s Marco Rubio are calling him out on Twitter:

Happy #Florida & #WPB home to #WinterWhiteHouse But need to deal burden with burden it’s imposing on local govt

Even worse, Trump has taken these taxpayer-funded trips and used them as advertising for his personal brand. By traveling over and over to properties with the Trump name emblazoned on them in obnoxious gold lettering, Trump is able to get nationwide coverage of Trump properties at the taxpayer’s expense. That’s right: taxpayer dollars aren’t only being used to pay for Trump’s vacations, but for his advertising as well.

Perhaps the most egregious example of this was when Trump hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe in his Mar-A-Lago resort. Instead of conducting the state dinner at an appropriate venue like the White House, Trump paraded Abe out in front of patrons at the Mar-A-Lago restaurant and used his presence as talking point for hotel guests. This sort of disrespect for foreign dignitaries just for the sake of Trump’s ego and brand name cannot be tolerated.

If you thought the Mar-A-Lago expenses represented the entirety of the Trump family’s use of taxpayer money, think again. Security agencies also have to spend huge amounts of money to protect every member of the Trump family, which means that Trump Tower has to be essentially as protected as the White House. This means that Secret Service and FBI units likely have to lease huge parts of the building constantly while Trump is President because Melania refuses to live in the White House. This could represent a cost of over $180 million per year for American taxpayers.

Trump needs to know that enough is enough. The American people aren’t going to idly sit by and allow him to spend taxpayer money on his own personal luxuries. If you agree that Trump needs to spend more time cleaning up his act as his advisers get kicked off national television, blocked from public schools, and forced to resign, please share this article with your friends. If enough people are aware of how much taxpayer money he’s spending, Democrats around the country can pressure the administration to stop Trump’s ridiculously wasteful habits.

Please share this on Facebook and tell us what you think about this repulsive trend.
