‘It Was Wrapped Tightly Around My Butt Cheek’: Second Woman Says ‘Al Franken Molested Me’

A woman told CNN that Minnesota Sen. Al Franken groped her in 2010, the second woman to accuse the comedian-turned-lawmaker of sexual misconduct.

Lindsay Menz, 33, says Franken grabbed her butt while taking a photo at the Minnesota State Fair seven years ago.

Menz reached out to CNN after seeing Los Angeles radio host Leeann Tweeden accuse Franken of forcibly kissing her and groping her while she slept during a USO tour in 2006.

Menz says she attended the state fair with her family two years after Franken was elected to the Senate.

Her father’s business was sponsoring a radio booth and she met numerous elected officials at the booth that day.

She says that as her husband held up her phone to take a photo of her and Franken, the senator “pulled me in really close, like awkward close, and as my husband took the picture, he put his hand full-fledged on my rear. It was wrapped tightly around my butt cheek.”

“It wasn’t around my waist. It wasn’t around my hip or side. It was definitely on my butt,” she recalled. “I was like, oh my God, what’s happening.”

Her husband, who did not see what happened behind the two, told CNN, “He reached around her and kind of pulled her into him. He pulled her in and pushed his head against her head. It was over pretty quick.”

Menz says she never addressed the grab with Franken but told her husband and her family what happened.

“He totally grabbed my butt,” she told her husband.

“I felt gross. It’d be like being walking through the mall and some random person grabbing your butt,” Menz said. “You just feel gross. Like ew, I want to wash that off of me.”

“I was upset. I wasn’t happy about it in the least,” her husband added. “He was already gone and I wasn’t going to confront him. But yeah — I was in shock, really.”

Menz’s parents also recalled her telling them about the incident right away.

“Our senator just groped my wife right in front of me,” her mother told CNN she remembers her son-in-law saying.

Menz posted the photo on Facebook at the time. “Sorry, but you two aren’t Bibles (sic) width apart,” her sister wrote in a comment.

“Dude — Al Franken TOTALLY molested me! Creeper!” she wrote back to her sister in 2010.

Franken issued a statement saying he did not remember taking the photo but apologized to Menz if she felt “disrespected.”

“I take thousands of photos at the state fair surrounded by hundreds of people, and I certainly don’t remember taking this picture,” Franken said. “I feel badly that Ms. Menz came away from our interaction feeling disrespected.”

The accusation comes days after Tweeden published a photo of Franken jokingly groping her as she slept and recalled him forcibly kissing her after writing a skit in which they kiss and then badgering her into rehearsing it.

“I respect women. I don’t respect men who don’t. And the fact that my own actions have given people a good reason to doubt that makes me feel ashamed,” Franken said in a statement after Tweeden went public. “I understand why we need to listen to and believe women’s experiences.”
