Late night host Jimmy Kimmel has been on a tear against Louisiana Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy and his heartless Obamacare repeal bill, but took a few moments to rip Fox News host Brian Kilmeade for doubting the sincerity of his concern Wednesday.
Back in May, Kimmel revealed that his newborn son was born with a heart defect. The child had surgery just days into his life and will need to undergo at least two more.
Kimmel used his personal experience to call on Congress to preserve protections for people with preexisting medical conditions, like his son who came into the world with one.
Cassidy said he was so moved by Kimmel’s experience he guaranteed that any bill he supported would have to pass the “Jimmy Kimmel test,” meaning it would keep rules protecting people with preexisting conditions from being denied coverage.
Earlier this week, Kimmel called him out for his deceit, saying Cassidy “just lied right to my face.”
“This bill actually does past the Jimmy Kimmel test, but a different Jimmy Kimmel test,” he said. “With this one, your child with a preexisting condition will get the care he needs — if, and only if, his father is Jimmy Kimmel. Otherwise, you might be screwed.”
Cassidy pushed back on Kimmel’s criticism, claiming the host simply doesn’t “understand” the bill.
Kimmel unleashed fact-check hell on Cassidy Wednesday.
“Which part don’t I understand?” Kimmel asked. “Oh, I get it. I don’t understand because I’m a talk show host, right?”
“Well, then help me out. Which part don’t I understand?” he continued. “Is it the part where you cut $243 billion from federal healthcare assistance? Am I not understanding the part where states would be allowed to let insurance companies price you out of coverage for having pre-existing conditions?”
“Maybe I don’t understand the part of your bill in which federal funding disappears completely after 2026? Or maybe it was the part where the plans are no longer required to pay for essential health benefits like maternity care or pediatric visits?” he asked.
Kimmel then turned his ire toward Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, who dismissed Kimmel’s criticism of the bill because the host is a member of the “Hollywood elite.”
“The reason I found this comment to be particularly annoying is because this is a guy, Brian Kilmeade, who, whenever I see him, kisses my ass like a little boy meeting Batman,” Kimmel said. “Oh, he’s such a fan.”
“He follows me on Twitter, he asks me to write a blurb for his book, which I did,” he continued. “He calls my agent looking for projects. He’s dying to be a member of the Hollywood elite. The only reason he’s not a member of the Hollywood elite is because nobody will hire him to be one. And the reason I’m talking about this is because my son had an open heart surgery, has to have two more, and I learned there are kids with no insurance in the same situation. I don’t get anything out of this, Brian, you phony little creep. Oh, I’ll pound you when I see you.”
