CNN Completely Shut Down Trump’s New “Fake News” Propaganda Ad on Twitter

It’s been well noted that Donald Trump is absolutely obsessed with his popularity as President. Trump’s insecurities drive him to seek external validation from his constituents in the form of high approval ratings, and this has embarrassed the President in the past. Trump’s spat with Arnold Schwarzenegger was humiliating for the White House, and Trump has nonsensically insisted that only the polls that offered him support were legitimate.

Recently, Trump attempted to drum up more admiration among his supporters by releasing an advertisement that pointed out all of the “accomplishments” of his first 100 days in office. CNN refused to air Trump’s ad due to the fact that the clip called main stream media “fake news”, a lie that CNN correctly realizes damages the journalists that maintain the integrity of the flow of free information in the United States.

Trump’s constant effort to discredit these journalists has been one of the most frighteningly authoritarian aspects of his Presidency, so it makes complete sense that CNN would refuse to air an ad pushing this message. Instead of realizing that media companies would obviously refuse to air something that directly work to discredit him and simply taking the “fake news” bit out of the advertisement, the Trump administration pursued their usual course of action: immediately throwing a public tantrum. See Trump’s statement on the matter below:

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>Inbox: Trump calls CNN a &quot;fake news station&quot; for censoring its first 100 days TV spot <a href=”https://t.co/WHfSKPJby1″>pic.twitter.com/WHfSKPJby1</a></p>&mdash; Sarah Westwood (@sarahcwestwood) <a href=”https://twitter.com/sarahcwestwood/status/859408579555733504″>May 2, 2017</a></blockquote>

Trump accused CNN of “blocking the positive message” that his administration was trying to spread, accusing the media company of acting for partisan reasons. CNN was quick to fire back at Trump and point out the ridiculous nature of his expectation that media companies should help spread a campaign that was intended to discredit media companies. Instead, CNN simply stated that due to the fact that the “fake news” claims were blatantly false, the company would not air the ad as per its policies regarding the quality of content it chooses to broadcast. See CNN’s response on Twitter below:

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>In response to the Donald J. Trump for President campaign’s accusations of ad censorship: <a href=”https://t.co/0Rbanpf0dn”>pic.twitter.com/0Rbanpf0dn</a></p>&mdash; CNN Communications (@CNNPR) <a href=”https://twitter.com/CNNPR/status/859425426556542976″>May 2, 2017</a></blockquote>

Once again, Trump’s obsession with his own popularity and his incessant bragging about his generally nonexistent accomplishments has landed his administration in a humiliating situation. CNN completely shuts down Trump’s argument, and once again highlights the ridiculous nature of Trump’s “fake news” conspiracy. If you agree that Trump’s dangerous de-legitimization of the media and flirtations with autocracy need to stop, please share this article with your friends and family on Facebook.
